Home to the Stage 1 finish line, Beaver Creek is a feast for the eyes; a delight for the senses. The influence of renowned resorts such as Switzerland's St. Moritz, Italy's Cortina, and Spain's Val d'Aran led to the creation of a unique mountain resort full of excitement and village luxury.
After the grueling 3-mile climb from Avon, riders will race to the finish line on Avondale Lane in the heart of Beaver Creek Village. Spectator opportunities in and around the finish line in Beaver Creek abound, as do public events and activities for the whole family to enjoy including a Health & Lifestyle Expo.
Before the resort was opened, it was named as a site for the 1976 Olympics, but political pressure in Denver kept the Vail Valley from realizing this dream. Construction continued, and on December 15, 1980, Beaver Creek opened to the public.
Major events have always found a home in Beaver Creek. In 1989 and 1999 the resort hosted the World Alpine Ski Championships and is home to the Birds of Prey, respected as one of the three most difficult downhill courses in the world.
