DIVIDE RIDE 100-K CITIZEN’S RIDE ADDED TO INAUGURAL COLORADO STAGE SCHEDULE ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 24

VAIL, Colorado—Amateur cyclists of all abilities will have the opportunity to participate in the inaugural Colorado Stage International Cycle Classic as the Vail Valley Foundation has added a 100-kilometer citizen’s ride to the overall schedule of the three-stage road cycling race.

Dubbed the “Divide Ride” and slated for Sunday morning, August 24, the ride will feature an out and back route, beginning at the base of Beaver Creek Resort and following a portion of the “Top of the Rockies” Colorado scenic byway, Highway 6 & 24, up Battle Mountain Pass.  The turnaround point will be at the summit of Tennessee Pass at an elevation of 10,424 feet.

“The Divide Ride will be a great complement to the pro racing action of the inaugural Colorado Stage International Cycle Classic,” explained Michael Imhof, Vice President of Sales and Operations for the Vail Valley Foundation.  “We’ve crafted the schedule to enable the citizen riders to complete the Divide Ride in time to get back into Vail for the start of the final stage, the individual time trial.”

With a rolling start from 6 a.m. and 8 a.m., the Divide Ride will feature full support, with two aid stations providing drinks and light snacks.  The first will be near Red Cliff, with the second at Tennessee Pass.  All participants in the Divide Ride must wear an ANSI or Snell approved helmet.

Online registration for the Divide Ride is currently available at either Coloradostagebike.com or www.active.com.  Early registration is priced at $75 through July 26, with participants also having the chance to register at the Colorado River Ride. The registration fee will increase to $85 from July 27 through August 22, with day-of-ride registration on August 24 at the Bear Lot at the base of Beaver Creek priced at $100.

In addition to the ride itself, participants will also receive a custom jersey, goodie bag and complementary pasta feed and concert on Saturday evening in Lionshead.

The inaugural Colorado Stage International Cycle Classic is scheduled from August 22-24 and will include the 130-mile Breckenridge to Beaver Creek road race, the 72-mile Vail Village circuit race and the 10-mile individual time trial.

The Colorado Stage International Cycle Classic is a project of the Vail Valley Foundation.  For additional information on the Colorado Stage, visit www.coloradostagebike.com.  For further information on the Vail Valley Foundation, contact (970) 949-1999 or visit www.vvf.org.
